Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss, but they have not given up just yet.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Leicester City have turned down Crystal Palace’s initial bid worth £20 million for the signature of Moroccan attacking sensation Bilal El Khannouss. While it is a massive blow, the Eagles are set to return with an improved offer as they consider the KRC Genk graduate a priority target.
El Khannouss came up the ranks and made a name for himself while playing for Genk. The Moroccan international made the move to Leicester City. While the Foxes failed to survive in the English top flight, the 21-year-old was one of their standout performers.
He finished with nine goal contributions in his 36 outings last season and has already made an impressive start to the new season with two assists in his first two outings in the Championship. While he still has three years left on his deal at Leicester, his future has been up in the air ever since the club’s relegation was confirmed.
The 21-year-old wants to continue playing at the highest level, and Crystal Palace are ready to offer him that opportunity. While there is no shortage of interest in his signature, the Eagles are front-runners as they are already in talks with the Foxes.
Palace keep pushing for El Khannouss’ signature
Oliver Glasner is looking to ensure they have enough firepower in the final third. With Eberechi Eze closing in on a move away, El Khannouss’ arrival could certainly help their cause.
The Eagles recently submitted an initial offer worth £20 million. However, it has been turned down by the Foxes. Despite things not working out as planned, Palace haven’t given up. They are set to return with an improved offer in the coming days.
They will table a decisive offer if Eze’s potential move to Tottenham Hotspur goes through. El Khannouss is keen on joining Glasner’s team. He has already given the green light to the move and is set to sign a four-year contract.
While the relegation release clause in El Khannouss’ contract has expired, Leicester are still open to his departure, and they remain in talks with the South London club.
