Former Georgia quarterback **[Stetson Bennett](https://247sports.com/Player/Stetson-Bennett-IV-89844)** has been working this preseason to prove he can be part of the Los Angeles Rams' future. He took his case to another level on Saturday with a standout performance that featured a game winner late in the going.
Bennett played the entirety of the Rams' second preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers and put together a strong showing. He was 28-of-40 through the air for 324 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception, his final touchdown being an 8-yard dart to Tru Edwards with only five seconds left. The Bennett-to-Edwards connection gave the Rams a 23-22 victory.
Bennett's play earned him a game ball in the Rams' post-game locker room.
"It was pretty cool, I'm not going to lie. I was tired out there," Bennett said via Rams' social media. "That was a hard-fought one, and I think everybody out there at the end — and, you know, the defense giving us the ball back, it was pretty sweet."
Bennett was productive throughout Saturday's preseason game, though he needed some late heroics to overcome a rare mistake.
Bennett hit Konata Mumpfield for a 2-yard touchdown in the first quarter of action then found the end zone again at the end of the third quarter with a 38-yard laser to Mario Williams. Bennett threw an interception to defensive lineman TeRah Edwards with less than seven minutes to go and the Chargers up five, but the Rams' defense held to give the offense another try.
Once again, The Mailman delivered.
Bennett and the Rams got the ball on their own 25-yard line with 1:28 to go. He hit Mark Redman for a 15-yard gain to start the drive before it nearly stalled out, resulting in a crucial fourth-and-3 with 41 seconds to go. Bennett moved the chains with a short completion to Edwards only for two incompletions and a sack left the Rams in dire straits once again.
Facing a fourth-and-10 with 19 seconds remaining, Bennett fired a prayer downfield that was answered by Brennan Presley, who caught a jump ball amid two Chargers defenders down on the 8-yard line.
Bennett found Edwards on the next play for the go-ahead score.
"It's not over until it is. Just keep going and keep swinging," Bennett said.
Bennett has impressed through two preseason games this year. He has completed 68.8% of his attempts for 512 yards with 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Bennett's strong preseason comes during a time of great uncertainty for the Rams' quarterback position.
**[Matthew Stafford](https://247sports.com/Player/Matthew-Stafford-24873)** has been limited this offseason as he deals with a back injury, and the wait for his return to practice has taken longer than expected. The Los Angeles Times' Gary Klein reported that a Rams official declined to comment when asked if Stafford worked out as scheduled on Saturday. The official said Rams head coach Sean McVay would address the situation on Monday.
When Bennett was asked if he felt prepared to run with the ones early in the regular season, he kept his response short and sweet.
"I think again it's the same thing: we're just trying to execute every single play and do it the best for the Rams," Bennett said.
