Monica McNutt’s Barry Sanders Slip on First Take Is Breaking the Internet

A mix-up on ESPN’s First Take has gone viral, and Detroit Lions fans aren’t letting it slide.

During a segment featuring comedian Druski alongside**Stephen A. Smith**, host Monica McNutt mistakenly confused Druski’s Lions jersey for one belonging to a completely different Sanders.

The issue? Druski was rocking a Barry Sanders jersey, the Hall of Fame running back and Detroit legend. But McNutt linked it to Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“Obviously, the jersey, so let’s get into it,” McNutt said. “This ties to one Shedeur Sanders.”

Druski quickly straightened out the jersey and shook his head in disbelief. “No, no, no,” he corrected. “This is Barry Sanders.”

The slip-up instantly spread across social media, with fans pointing out the generational gap between the two Sanders. Barry Sanders, one of the most iconic players in NFL history, played his entire 10-year career in Detroit, retiring as one of the greatest running backs ever. Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders was just drafted in 2025 and has yet to play his first regular season NFL snap.

Naturally, Lions fans had fun with the moment, making memes and poking fun at the fact that Barry Sanders, one of the most recognizable names in football history, could be mistaken for someone else.

For Druski, the comedic timing couldn’t have been better, and the viral clip has only added fuel to the buzz around his appearance. For Lions fans, it’s another reminder that Barry Sanders’ greatness should never be overlooked, or confused.
