Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United career 'definitely over' for star left out of Arsenal squad

Man Utd host Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League season and here is the early team news.

Rasmus Hojlund has been left out of the Manchester United squad to face Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. United know they must show serious improvement from their disastrous league campaign last time out and face one of the most difficult tests imaginable on Sunday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim prioritised attacking reinforcement during the summer transfer window and was backed with roughly £200 million to bring Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to the club. Those three additions should greatly improve an attack that managed just 44 league goal last season and their arrivals should spell the end for other forwards still at the club.

United aim to sell Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Antony before deadline day, but they only have two weeks left to get any deals done in the European window. It is understood the quartet will all be left out of the squad to face Arsenal, in another huge blow to Hojlund as he fights to save his career at Old Trafford.

Hojlund out of squad vs Arsenal

Rasmus Hojlund has reiterated he wants to remain at Manchester United but he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim and has been advised to leave the club to gain regular playing time elsewhere.

The 22-year-old is reluctant to leave before deadline day but the decision to omit him from the Arsenal squad is the latest indication his future is no longer in Manchester. United aim to shift Hojlund in the final two weeks of the window and the latest selection blow could be required to move him closer towards an exit.

Taking to social media on Sunday afternoon, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano issued an update on the situation: "Rasmus Højlund and Manchester United, it’s definitely over. Højlund won’t be part of Man United squad against Arsenal as club sends clear message pushing for his exit. United open to permanent and also loan deal, Højlund will assess his options."

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Ruben Amorim provided an update on the Danish striker added: "He's one more option. We will see. We are focused on this game and Rasmus is still our player."
