Maresca Names Josh Acheampong in Chelsea’s Starting Lineup to Face Crystal Palace

Enzo Maresca has revealed Chelsea’s starting XI to play Crystal Palace in their first Premier League game of the 2025–26 season, with young players like Josh Acheampong getting into the 11. The manager has selected the young academy graduate after some senior players missed out due to injuries or tactical choices.

Reece James is the captain and plays right back. Josh Acheampong and Trevoh Chalobah, who is back from injury, play in central defense. Marc Cucurella is in charge of the left side of defense, and Robert Sanchez stays in goal. Tosin Adarabioyo is out because of an injury, along with Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Benoit Badiashile.

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are in the midfield double pivot. They are two players who are expected to be the backbone of Maresca’s possession-based system. Cole Palmer starts in the No. 10 role after a good pre-season, while Jamie Gittens and new signing Pedro Neto play on the wings. João Pedro, another summer signing, is the Blues’ main striker in his first Premier League game at the Bridge.

Talking Points as Chelsea Begin Premier League Campaign

The lineup will give Jamie Gittens a big test in the Premier League. While it is also Joao Pedro’s debut, the striker has played in the league for Brighton and is not new to the physicality of football in England.

Meanwhile, the manager is intent on making more transfers, as key defenders are out. One report confirmed that the Blues are not looking to sign another defender, despite four of their senior defenders being injured. However, Enzo Maresca told the press that he would like to sign a new centre-back.

Looking to the game, everyone will be watching to see if this Chelsea team can rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge. Maresca’s first real title push has come, and they will look to take their Club World Cup momentum into the Premier League.
