Newcastle Insider Provides Fresh Update on Possible Striker Targets

Newcastle United’s search for a new striker could still produce an unexpected signing before the transfer deadline, according to The Athletic’s George Caulkin.

Responding to a fan question, Waugh confirmed that Jorgen Strand Larsen and Samu Aghehowa have made the list, though both would command high fees and could present challenging negotiations. Wolves have made it clear they will not sell Strand Larsen—rings a bell?—while Aghehowa would require a significant investment to extract him from Porto.

Yoane Wissa remains high on Newcastle’s priority list and a transfer seems to be nothing but done and set to be announced next week. Plans to land a second striker are in place, however, no matter what happens with Isak.

Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson was offered to Newcastle, but there are reservations within the club about pursuing the 23-year-old forward because of disciplinary issues and a not-quite-perfect fit within the Magpies organization.

Waugh added Arnaud Kalimuendo of Rennes to the list of forwards linked to Newcastle, with this being the first report about a potential transfer for the Ligue 1 striker. That said, sources close to the club have played down the prospect of a move for Kalimuendo this late in the transfer window.
