Barcelona could renew and then loan out out-of-favour player – Report

The situation of Inaki Pena is one that FC Barcelona have been trying to resolve since quite some time. However, the Spanish goalkeeper is currently stuck in a peculiar situation of sorts. Considering that his exit is now apparently linked to the situation of Wojciech Szczesny, it is definitely rather unorthodox.

The club is open to parting ways with the Spaniard this summer, but they also want Szczesny to be registered before that happens. The reason for this is that, alongside Joan Garcia, Pena remains the only available Barça goalkeeper registered in La Liga.

Barcelona could renew Pena’s deal first

Unfortunately, there is also the issue of Pena’s salary and how suitors are not exactly willing to match those demands right now. With time running out, it seems now that a contract renewal and a subsequent loan move is being considered.

This move, as highlighted by SPORT, would at least allow Barça to reduce the wage bill slightly. While it is not a permanent solution by any means, it is still a feasible measure that could prove to be beneficial for Barça.

A decent number of suitors for the player

At the moment, clubs like Como, Celta Vigo, and Girona remain linked to the player if a loan operation appears to be viable. Moreover, understanding the frustrating nature of the entire situation, even Barça values the professionalism being shown by the Spaniard.

Even if he ends up leaving, there is no denying the loyalty and service that the goalkeeper has given to the club. Now, however, it seems that a new chapter awaits him, and there is confidence that a conclusion will be reached before the end of the transfer window.
