Newcastle United are “preparing” a bid worth almost £70 million to sign Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, according to Fichajes.
Despite coming into the window having won the Carabao Cup and with a place in the Champions League secured, it has not been the summer that Newcastle had expected, though they have managed to sign winger Anthony Elanga, defender Malick Thiaw and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to date.
Newcastle’s issues this summer have stemmed from their pursuit of a new striker. The Magpies are close to signing Yoane Wissa from Brentford, having missed out on the likes of Joao Pedro, Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike, to name just a few, to Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.
To make matters worse for Newcastle, star striker Alexander Isak has demanded to leave the club, with Liverpool touted as the player’s preferred destination. Even with Wissa set to come in, it would be no surprise if Eddie Howe’s side pursue another striker, given William Osula is, at the time of writing, their only senior number nine.
Now, reports have indicated that the Magpies are keen on signing an attacker who dazzled the Premier League last season.

Fichajes have stated that Newcastle have set their sights on Antoine Semenyo as an “ideal replacement” for Isak. A Ghanaian international, Semenyo has been with Bournemouth since 2023 and under the guidance of Andoni Iraola, has blossomed into a star, becoming perhaps the Spaniard’s most-important attacking player.
Comfortable either out wide or as a central striker, Semenyo, who has been called an "absolute star," would offer depth and quality for Newcastle, who have European football to prepare for once again. On the opening day of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, Semenyo starred at Anfield, scoring twice in a 4-2 loss to Liverpool.
Semenyo would not be cheap were he to leave Bournemouth who, after selling the likes of Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen, have no need to generate further funds on paper. Newcastle’s reported opening bid, as such, is rumoured to be worth almost £70 million. Further negotiations may be required, but the Magpies may eventually offer a figure that the Cherries find impossible to refuse.
Though he would surely be costly, Semenyo would be a phenomenal addition for the Magpies were they to secure his services.
