Report: Everton now eyeing move to sign another Man City star after Grealish

Everton are reportedly willing to battle it out with the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus to sign Manchester City defender Rico Lewis.

TBR Football reports that the Toffees are in the mix for Lewis, whose future is uncertain despite City's willingness to extend his contract. He has three years left on his current deal, but the Cityzens are prepared to entertain offers for their academy graduate.

Lewis is in demand with Everton, one of five Premier League clubs that are showing interest after being approached by intermediaries. He was a regular under Pep Guardiola last season and bagged an assist in his side's 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday (August 16).

Lewis has become a utility man at the Etihad, appearing in five different positions last season, including at right-back, left-back and in defensive midfield. David Moyes often relishes having a versatile profile in his squad, and the five-cap England international could be a good fit.

It's thought that talks with Guardiola in the coming weeks will decide whether he stays or leaves before the transfer window closes on September 1. A move to Everton is a possibility, although Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Tottenham Hotspur are all keeping a close eye on developments.

Lewis also has a fan in Vincent Kompany, and Bayern are monitoring the situation while Juve and Atletico Madrid are similarly in the race. He's yet to play his football outside the Premier League, and that might be factored in with the World Cup on the horizon next year.

The 20-year-old can also expect assured game time at Hill Dickinson Stadium and could make the right-back berth his own. His former club teammate Jack Grealish made the switch to Merseyside last week, joining Moyes' side on loan for more first-team opportunities.

Moyes has proven to be successful in developing young English talents. He was crucial in helping Wayne Rooney (pictured below) and Declan Rice upon their meteoric rises in the Premier League.

Lewis debuted at senior level for City in August 2022 and has gone on to make 95 appearances. That includes a start in the 4-0 win over Wolves this weekend, which suggests that he is in Guardiola's plans, despite contact being made with other clubs regarding his availability.

Moyes may view Lewis as an Ashley Young replacement after the 39-year-old departed earlier this summer. His versatile profile helped the Scot and the Toffees turn the tide last season.
