Report: Andrew Wiggins has had ‘great’ summer with Heat

Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins was linked to more than one opposing team in trade rumors earlier this offseason. He played out the 2024-25 campaign in Miami after the Golden State Warriors dealt him to the Heat as part of the Jimmy Butler trade prior to the February trade deadline.

However, Wiggins is still a member of the Heat at this juncture despite the noise, and Five Reasons Sports’ Greg Sylvander shared that the one-time All-Star has enjoyed a “great” summer with the team. Wiggins has reportedly turned heads with his willingness to spend so much time around the Heat’s facilities.

“Also, sounds like Andrew Wiggins has had a great summer with the Heat, who have been impressed with how much time he has spent around team facilities,” Sylvander wrote via Discord.

News of Wiggins’ impressive summer comes not all that long after Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel indicated that as far as he knows, no one from Miami’s front office has publicly or privately spoken of a need or desire to move him.

Wiggins is one of the more proven scoring options the Heat have on their roster, and that’s one reason why keeping him in the fold to begin the coming season might be the correct move for the team. In 17 games played with Miami last season, Wiggins averaged 19.0 points per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from 3-point range.

He’s also scored as many as 23.6 points per game in a single season at the NBA level (even though that was many years ago). His scoring chops can help take some pressure off the likes of guard Tyler Herro and big man Bam Adebayo from putting the ball through the bottom of the net.

Recent clues — including Sylvander’s report — seem to suggest that Wiggins hasn’t already played his last game as a member of the Heat, even if it maybe appeared that was the case not too many moons ago.

For now, Heat fans should expect Wiggins to be an important two-way player for the team once again in the 2025-26 season as Miami looks to qualify for the playoffs for a seventh year in a row in 2026. The Heat haven’t missed the playoffs since the year 2019.
