Gary Neville has raised concerns over Manchester United's goalkeeping situation after a mistake from Altay Bayindir against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Turkish shot-stopper flapped at a corner and Gunners defender Riccardo Calafiori headed in from a yard out. It continued a worrying trend for Bayındır who was at fault for several goals last season under Ruben Amorim - the nadir being United's heavy 4-1 loss at Newcastle.

Bayindir is starting against Arsenal with the Reds' regular No.1 Andre Onana having only recently recovered from a hamstring injury after missing the entirety of United's pre-season schedule. And Neville has voiced his concern after Onana's understudy made an error against Mikel Arteta's side in United's opening game of the 2025/26 campaign.

"It's going to keep hurting United, the goalkeeper has got to be stronger," he said on Sky Sports.

"He'll complain that he's been fouled, there's a player in front of him, there's a lot of pushing and shoving.

"I think the goalkeeper has to be stronger, get that player out the way, Saliba hasn't got his hands up, I don't think he's done anything at all.

"It goes through his hands, it's definitely a goal, he's just not strong enough. The delivery is sensational and they just don't deal with it."

Amorim has revealed that Onana was left out of United's matchday squad against Arsenal because of the performances of the Reds' other goalkeepers in pre-season.

“No, he recovered," Amorim told MUTV when asked if Onana was still injured.

"But the other guys [Bayindir and Heaton] did so well during pre-season, so I need to balance that.”
