“Fracture” blow for West Ham | Young star sidelined for weeks

At a time when West Ham’s morale is, according to their own inside sources, [‘on the floor’](https://www.claretandhugh.info/exclusive-were-on-the-floor-west-ham-board-admit-crisis-of-their-own-making/), the news goes from bad to worse as one of their crop of prized youngsters has succumbed to a broken bone and looks set for a long layoff.

The one commodity in short supply at London Stadium is that of genuine pace, so to find out that ‘wonderkid’ **Luis Guilherme** has now been struck down by a broken bone is a double blow, considering the current unavailability of winger Crysencio Summerville, for whom Guilherme had been deputising during preseason.

Yesterday’s display showed the dearth of pace available as the Hammers were resoundingly beaten 3 – 0 by Sunderland.

From [_exWHUemployee_](https://www.thewesthamway.com/2025/08/17/real-blow-exwhuemployee-luis-guilherme-injury-transfer-update/) comes the bad news that “_Luis Guilherme was not available yesterday after breaking his collar bone”._

No information was supplied on how the injury came about save _‘in training’-_ nor was there a prognosis for a recovery: Several weeks at least I’d say from personal experience. Whilst it explains why the Brazilian speedster did not feature on Potter’s two dimensional bench yesterday, it only highlights again West Ham’s lack of legs and a reliance on laboured, past their peak squad members.

**Crysencio Summerville** may be ‘almost there’ according to Potter but there must be a cautious approach to avoid any recurrence of his hamstring injury, however desperate Potter might be ( and Hammers fans _definitely are_) to see faster more youthful squad members produce a performance of greater entertainment value and carry a greater threat to the opposition.

Interestingly, no update appears to have been forthcoming on youngster George Earthy who injured ankle ligaments in pre-season. Another desperately needed young midfielder, Earthy’s injury was said at the time to be not serious. You’d have to ask the question. And we will.
