Aston Villa have confirmed that Jacob Ramsey has left the club to join Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Villa from the age of six, and went on to establish himself as a key figure in the first-team squad.

Ramsey leaves having made 167 appearances for the club at senior level, scoring 17 goals and providing 19 assists.
Despite being an important figure under Unai Emery, injuries and a lack of consistency ultimately held him back from fulfilling his potential over the past two seasons, and while we wish him the best moving forward, having joined a direct rival, it’s hoped that we don’t rue the decision to sell to Newcastle.
As per the club’s statement, Ramsey has completed his move to Newcastle, and as per BirminghamLive, the deal is worth an initial £39m, while the total fee could rise to £44m with add-ons.
As has been well documented this summer, Villa have faced financial pressure to comply with PSR and UEFA’s regulations, and so it’s hoped that the club have now taken the necessary steps to avoid further breaches and subsequent sanctions.
Time will tell if Emery is able to strengthen his squad in the final weeks of the summer transfer window or not, but the Ramsey sale should help give us financial flexibility through the transfer fee and reduced wage bill.
It had been reported last week that Villa did make attempts to agree on a new contract with the midfield ace but no such agreement could be found, and so the club have hopefully done good business and it will ultimately benefit us in the short-term and long-term future.
As seen in the social media post below, Ramsey bid an emotional farewell to Villa ahead of his unveiling by Newcastle, thanking the club’s staff who helped develop him into the player he is today, as well as the fans, with whom he undoubtedly had a special connection as one of our own.
