New Orleans Saints rookie defensive tackle Vernon Broughton notched his first NFL turnover in Sunday's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
At the end of the Jaguars; first drive on Sunday, which featured starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence and running back Tank Bigsby, an offensive lineman stepped on Lawrence's foot under center, which caused the playcaller to trip as he attempted to hand the ball off to Bigsby. The blooper resulted in a fumble, recovered by Broughton.
The turnover for Jacksonville came at the end of a drive deep into the red zone.

Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough then took the reigns at the start of the next possession in his first professional start. Shough's drive ended with an intentional grounding call and an ensuing run play to get New Orleans deep out of their own territory.
Lawrence recovered by throwing an 8-yard touchdown pass to Parker Washington on the next Jacksonville drive.
The Saints ranked 27th out of 32 NFL teams for run defense in 2024. New Orleans made offseason additions like Davon Godchaux and Broughton to sure up that aspect of the team.
