Angry Alan Shearer rants at Alexander Isak and Liverpool live on BBC Radio – Well said

Leaving Villa Park with a point should have left Newcastle United fans mostly satisfied with the team’s performance in Saturday afternoon’s 0-0 draw.

But again, all we can focus on is the activity, or lack of any activity, from Alexander Isak, whose absence from the side has arguably cost us two points in a very winnable game.

Now Isak has officially missed a competitive game for the Magpies, it looks like he has burned his last bridge with the fans, and people are starting to get particularly angry. With a fine imminent, the club may be in that category too!

Alan Shearer is someone who shares the fans’ resentment, and in a new interview has criticised the player, his agent and Liverpool for their role in the ongoing situation.

Speaking to Mark Chapman on Radio 5 Live, Shearer has spoke out in support of the rightfully angry Newcastle fans, defending their stance to the rest of the footballing world.

From missing the very first pre-season friendly against Celtic up until now, Isak has still collected his reported £140,000 a week wages, so you can definitely understand fans’ lack of sympathy over the striker wanting a wage boost.

Watch what Shearer had to say about it on BBC Radio this week, followed by the quotes in full on a “belittling” bid from Liverpool and Isak’s lack of respect towards hard-working Newcastle fans:

“It has to have an effect on the group! There’s no doubt about it. That’s why there’s such anger in Newcastle with the fans.”

“You’ve got a guy on £100,000 a week plus, yet you’ve got the normal working bloke who’s paying £60 or £70 for a ticket to go to a match. And that’s why it hurts them so much.”

“You’ve got a guy who’s played a huge part in one of Newcastle’s best seasons ever, yet with three years left on his contract says ‘I don’t want to play for you anymore.’”

Isak’s dream destination, Liverpool, certainly haven’t helped. They’ve been trying to unsettle the player whilst only submitting one official bid to try and get us to accept a lowball offer.

It’s behaviour that Shearer, the club, and the fans have quickly grown tired of, and we all just want it to be over so we can focus on the season ahead.

“There’s a way of doing things, and the way that Alex is doing this at the minute is not the right way. It’s not a good look for him or his agent, who obviously has got into him, and Liverpool have got into his agent or his players.”

“I mean, to come in and offer £110m is rather belittling as well. I think when you’ve got midfielders going for £105m and £100m, they know they’re not going to get Alexander Isak for £110m.”
