Roy Keane has ripped into Manchester United and goalkeeper Altay Bayindir after the defeat to Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim’s side returned to Old Trafford for the Premier League opener against the Gunners looking to put right a miserable campaign last season. While the controlling performance against Mikel Arteta’s side was promising, the same old sinking feeling occurred.

Riccardo Calafiori headed in the easiest goal he will ever score from on the goal line after just 12 minutes. Declan Rice’s corner whipped under the crossbar and Bayindir was unable to deal with the delivery under pressure from William Saliba.

Bayindir, covering for Andre Onana who was absent after failing to recover in time from an injury that left him out of pre-season, flapped horrifically at the cross and was only able to haplessly turn the ball onto the head of the Gunners defender.

Despite United failing to turn their dominance into an equaliser in the second half, the blame will ultimately land at the hands of the Turkey international.

Analysing the game on Sky Sports at full-time, Keane and Richards were then embroiled in a back-and-forth over the former United captain's criticism of the goalkeeper.

Keane criticised Bayindir was being weak, saying the goalkeeper should have been more commanding and 'punched someone's head off' to get to the ball.

Fellow Sky Sports pundit Daniel Sturridge sat smirking in between as he had the best seat for the argument.

While most of the discussion was tough to pick up with both pundits arguing over the other, they both ultimately agreed Bayindir should have done better, but Richards believed he should have been better protected by his team-mates.

Speaking at half-time, Keane slammed about the goal: “The goalkeeper’s got to take control of that six-yard box. That’s the complaint. All you want is good delivery. You know you’re blocking, focus on the ball.

"But the goalkeeper—be aggressive. I’ve said it many times: for a goalkeeper, come with violence, come and be aggressive. That is your area. Take control of it. And actually, he’s already good at it.

“But Man United—weak and soft. Can they not just cope with Arsenal’s superior physicality?”
