3 Jaguars who could end up on the chopping block with poor showing vs. Saints

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is on the verge of a breakout season, with a chance to go from a good-enough quarterback to the elite QB fans know he can be. Lawrence finally has the tools around him to be successful, and he's been putting in the work to improve on his own over the offseason, too.

Some, of course, are still doubters and haters, thinking Lawrence not only will not do well this season, but will even get benched (yes, really). They're pointing to the Jags' first preseason game, in which he played just one drive, even though he played well during that drive. He played two drives in his game against the Saints, and some will undoubtedly use one cringy play to prove the Lawrence still has problems.

Lawrence was marching the offense down the field, when Ezra Cleveland - Lawrence's own right guard - stepped on his foot, causing Lawrence to trip and fumble the hand-off. Yikes.

Trevor Lawrence knows how to lead a comeback

That shaky play could be enough to doom someone, but Lawrence recovered beautifully. On the next drive, he led the Jaguars down the field and to a touchdown. The only negative spot in those two drives was that mistake by Cleveland. Otherwise, Lawrence looked fantastic; he ended his time at 8-for-10 passing for 76 yards, and a touchdown.

Overall, the offense looked amazing against the Saints in the first two drives. Their performance will likely be overshadowed by that misstep (literally) from Cleveland, but it shouldn't. Liam Coen was brought to Jacksonville specifically to work with Lawrence and improve the offense, and from what we saw in those two drives, it paid off.

Not only was Lawrence performing well, but the weapons around him were, too. The offense moved the ball well. Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne both had a few good carries, and Bigsby also had a good catch which netted him a whopping 19 yards. Parker Washington and Hunter Long also had some eye-popping plays, too; Washington in particular scored the touchdown by forcing a missed tackle after the catch and running the ball in. All in all, the offense has looked good so far, and Lawrence was a great leader while he was on the field.

The Jaguars are the underdogs of the NFL, something every fan knows, and so they'll likely continue to be underestimated going into the regular season. But those two drives with Lawrence prove that he knows how to mount a comeback, and that other teams should underestimate him at their own risk.
