Roy Keane wasn't impressed with what he saw from one Manchester United player during the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford. The Red Devils opened the 2025-26 Premier League season with a high-tempo performance, but still ended up with no points to show for their efforts.
Defender Riccardo Calafiori scored the only goal of the game in the first half as David Raya showed inspired form to keep out United's new boys, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. The home team played with a lot of energy - something that's been lacking at the Theatre of Dreams for quite some time - and they were unfortunate to be on the losing side on this occasion.
Ruben Amorim was able to name an almost full-strength starting XI, although the Portuguese boss would have likely wanted Benjamin Sesko to be ready to play from the start. Former club captain Keane laid into one of the players who wouldn't usually be a first choice at the club.
Roy Keane Fumes at Altay Bayindir's Role in Arsenal's Goal

Keane was particularly annoyed by the role Altay Bayindir played in the only goal of the game. Standing in for Andre Onana - whose future at the club remains uncertain - the Turkish shot-stopper wasn't strong enough against William Saliba from the corner kick.
The big centre-back was able to pin Bayindir to the goalline, which allowed Calafiori to tap in from just a yard out. Speaking on Sky Sports' post-match coverage, the Irishman didn't hold back in his assessment. He said: "We know Arsenal are big and strong. If you stop it where it goes in, where the ball ends up, that's your 'keeper's job.
"That's his area. He has to come with violence, he's got to be aggressive. He's got to say to players, 'Yeah, come here, I'm happy to deal with it.' You've got to be aggressive; it's just not strong enough. He's appealing to the referee. Don't be appealing to the referee. He's on his heels; it's far too easy. It's schoolboy stuff."
An irate Keane then pointed out how the goalkeeper was 'bullied' by the Arsenal players and claimed he should have been a lot more forceful in his actions. If required, the ex-Man Utd star would've preferred to see Bayindir wipe out everyone and everything in his path. He continued:
"That's part of the goalkeeper's job, shot-stopping, but that's about taking command of your area. But also letting your defenders know, 'Lads, if it does come into this area, I've got it. If that comes into me, I am favourite for it.' He was getting bullied. Why don't you bully the other lads? Why don't you come and punch it and go, 'If you come near me, I'll take your head off as well, it's no problem'?"
