'Wow'... BBC pundit and Rio Ferdinand praise X-factor Man Utd star, he's set to reach 'another level' at Old Trafford

Manchester United fans have reason to be positive despite the team’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

A tough opener at home to Arsenal presented a tough test for Ruben Amorim’s new look side. And against most opponents, the Red Devils would have won.

United handed full debuts to Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and both players were excellent amid the 1-0 defeat.

Cunha was a key player for Wolves last season and United moved quickly to snap him up this summer. It was easy to see why.

Praise for Matheus Cunha

Matheus Cunha was unlucky not to score in the first half when a low shot was superbly saved by David Raya.

Cunha also burst through on goal with an excellent run in the first half, showing how electric he can be carrying the ball forward. He also had a penalty appeal turned down in the second.

BBC Sport pundit Clinton Morrison was among several to praise Cunha, telling Radio 5 Live that he believes Cunha will improve.

He said: “Matheus Cunha has got the X-Factor. You come to a football match and you want to be entertained. He will entertain.

“He is a talent and I think he will take his game to another level playing with better players at Man Utd.”

Cunha was also lauded by former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand, who was also taken by the Brazilian’s performance.

“Cunha then, wow,” he posted, before adding another post lauding him and Bryan Mbeumo for being ‘lively’.

Numbers provided via Sofascore highlight Cunha’s attacking contribution, completing four of six dribble attempts, the most on the pitch.

Cunha also earned three fouls, and landed three of four attempted shots on target.

Bruno Fernandes backs new duo

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes expressed positive sentiments about Manchester United’s two new signings.

Fernandes said post-game: “We know what type of players they are. We are waiting for many good things from them.”

The midfielder expressed his disappointment with the result, adding: “It’s very difficult to look at good things when you lose a game but I think there are a lot of good things to take away.

“It’s something we have to look at but we did everything we had to do to win the game. We had many occasions where we could have got the goal but we didn’t get it.”
