The 25-year-old French goalkeeper came through the ranks at Lorient before joining Leeds, and the opportunity to return to his boyhood club could be exciting for him. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career. He has fallen down the pecking order, and he will not be a regular starter for the newly promoted side.
The goalkeeper was highly rated at one point, and Manchester United wanted to sign him.
Meslier needs to move on
Sitting on the bench at the Premier League club, at this stage of his career, will now benefit him, and the goalkeeper will want to move on before the window closes. It will be interesting to see if Lorient follow up on their enquiry with an offer to sign the player.
The 25-year-old knows the club well, and he will be able to settle in quickly and make an instant impact. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Leeds could use the proceeds from his departure to improve the squad further. They have done well to improve the squad this summer, and they could use more depth in the side. They have been promoted to the Premier League, and they need adequate reinforcements in order to survive in the top flight. They will not want to go down to the Championship at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Meslier is still quite young, and he has plenty of time to fulfil his potential. He will look to play regularly at the French club and fulfil his potential. There is no doubt that he’s a quality player, and a fresh start would be ideal for him.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper has not been at his best over the last 12 months. Perhaps a fresh start could help him regain his form and confidence. He will be under less pressure at the French club, and being away from the limelight would do him a world of good.
