Chelsea 0 - 0 Crystal Palace: Post Match Crystal Palace Player Ratings

Oliver Glasner's side built on their Community Shield victory by holding Chelsea to a goalless draw in a tough opening day fixture.

Controversy struck in the 13th minute when Eberechi Eze's thunderbolt freekick to give Palace the lead was overturned by VAR - teammate Marc Guehi encroached the Chelsea wall defending the set-piece - in what was potentially Eze's last game for the club as a transfer to Tottenham looms.

The Eagles kept the hosts quiet for large parts of the game, with Glasner's men unable to threaten the Blue's and snatch all three points in the capital.

Palace now set their sights on the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifiers against Norwegian side Fredrikstad.

Player ratings

Dean Henderson - 6

Henderson will be hoping for more quiet days at the office like today, with the goalkeeper called into action only a couple of times. Even with little to do he stayed alert in the final minutes when Chelsea pushed for the winner.

The 28-year-old was solid in build-up, firing the ball right into the feet of forward Jean-Philippe Mateta on several occasions.

Marc Guehi - 6.5

Going into the game question marks remained whether the club's captain will stay for the 2025/26 season, nevertheless, Guehi put in a steady performance with the only marker his actions the cause for Eze's goal being disallowed.

Maxence Lacroix - 7.5

Lacroix was the glue to Palace's back three today and frequently swept the ball away from danger - he registered seven clearances, two interceptions and three blocks.

In addition to his defensive display the towering Frenchman showed real composure on the ball, with a beautiful line-breaking pass into Mateta a highlight.

Chris Richards - 7

Much like Guehi and Lacroix, Richards was steady defensively, winning all four of his duels. The American also provided some quality passes for Ismaïla Sarr and Mateta going forward.

Tyrick Mitchell - 7.5

The Englishman had a very impressive performance at Stamford Bridge today, especially keeping winger Pedro Neto so quiet he was moved to the opposite flank.

Even when Estêvão was brought on to ruffle Mitchell he didn't budge and frequently linked up well with Eze to beat the Chelsea press.

Will Hughes - 6

The 30-year-old filled in for an injured Daichi Kamada but left the field in the 70th after a particularly average performance.

Hughes disrupted play on occasion in the first 45 but was unable to prevent Chelsea on the counter-attack, leading a booking for a pull of the shirt on Caicedo.

Adam Wharton - 8 (POTM)

Wharton was by far the best player on the pitch today, often dictating the tempo for the Eagles. He displayed great flair in midfield to bypass the press and always looked to play forward.

The 21-year-old will be Glasner's most important player this season.

Daniel Muñoz - 7

Similar to Mitchell, Muñoz gave winger Jamie Gittens very little going forward, winning five of his eight ground duels.

However he unordinarily gave little to the Palace attack except for one cross just before Eze's disallowed freekick.

Ismaïla Sarr - 7

Sarr was deployed in his typical inverted winger role today and just three minutes into the game he produced a vital goal-line clearance.

From then on he showed great energy both in attack and defence.

Eberechi Eze - 7

Eze was a real handful in first half for Reece James and got the Chelsea captain in the book after a cheeky nutmeg.

However Eze's involvement in the match dwindled leading to a substitution in the 84th minute.

Jean-Philippe Mateta - 6.5

Mateta showed his quality as a target man, he held the ball up and linked play well but lacked a clinic edge to put the Eagles in-front.

His best chance of the game was poorly struck and an easy claim for Robert Sánchez.

Substitutes

Jefferson Lerma - 5

Lerma had a solid 25 minutes to affect the game positively but failed to do so, with Chelsea having the momentum after the Colombian came on.

Justin Devenny - 5

Devenny's only contribution was a squandered opportunity late on where he showed a real lack of concentration.
