Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell is dealing with a hamstring injury ahead of the 2025 season

The Baltimore Ravens, like every other team across the NFL, are dealing with some injury issues ahead of the 2025 season. One guy who is a part of that group is running back Keaton Mitchell, and while he appears to have picked up a worrisome ailment, head coach John Harbaugh eased concerns over his status for Week 1.

Heading into the new campaign, the Ravens are excited about having Mitchell as part of their running back room, as he’s an explosive option who can come in and hold his own when Derrick Henry needs a rest. And while he’s a bit banged up now, the latest update on his injury status should make Baltimore’s fan base feel a bit better.

Ravens Get Encouraging Keaton Mitchell Injury Update

Mitchell didn’t hear his name called in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he still managed to latch on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent. In eight games as a rookie, Mitchell showed off his potential, as he racked up 396 yards and two touchdowns on just 47 carries, good for a mind-boggling 8.4 yards per carry.

Just when Mitchell was finding his groove, though, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 15, ending his season early and forcing him to miss a large chunk of the 2024 campaign. Mitchell returned to play in five games last year, but with Henry barreling his way through a historic campaign, there weren’t many touches to be had for the former East Carolina Pirates star.

Now that he’s fully healthy, the Ravens are hoping Mitchell can carve out a role for himself as a secondary option out of the backfield behind Henry and Justice Hill. The problem is that Mitchell is currently dealing with a hamstring injury, but according to Harbaugh, it shouldn’t prevent him from being ready to go for Baltimore by the time Week 1 rolls around.

“Ravens RB Keaton Mitchell is dealing with a hamstring injury,” Jamison Hensley of ESPN reported. “Mitchell didn’t practice last week and didn’t play in the second preseason game tonight. John Harbaugh: ‘I think there’s a chance [for him to return] this week, if not this week. He’ll be fine for the opener.'”

Ravens Hoping to Get Keaton Mitchell Back on the Field Soon

It was certainly a small sample size, but Mitchell showed the potential to be an extremely dangerous option out of the backfield for the Ravens as a rookie. Having Henry in town certainly limits the impact Mitchell can make on a game, but with Baltimore looking to lighten the superstar playmaker’s load in 2025, that could spell more touches for Mitchell.

First, he will have to get healthy, but it doesn’t sound like his current ailment is all that concerning. The primary objective for Mitchell will be to get back on the field before the start of the season. That way, once Week 1 rolls around, he’ll be ready to go and make an immediate impact for the Ravens should he find himself involved in the action.
