CHICAGO – After watching his starters in a physical joint practice, Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott erred on the side of caution Sunday in their preseason game against the Bears.

Quarterback Josh Allen, running back James Cook, receiver Keon Coleman, tight end Dawson Knox, tight end Dalton Kincaid and the rest of the starting offensive line received the night off. On defense, the Bills rested edge rusher Greg Rousseau, edge rusher Joey Bosa, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, defensive tackle Ed Oliver, linebacker Matt Milano, safety Taylor Rapp, cornerback Christian Benford, cornerback Tre'Davious White and safety Taylor Rapp.
Mike White, who's competing with Mitch Trubisky for the backup job, started at quarterback for the Bills against the Bears. Trubisky completed 9 of 13 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown while leading the first-team offense last week in the 34-25 loss to the Giants, while Mike went 8 for 13 with 112 yards with two touchdown passes.

The Bills' starters on offense: White, running back Ray Davis, receiver Joshua Palmer, receiver Elijah Moore, receiver Tyrell Shavers, left tackle Ryan Van Demark, left guard Chase Lundt, center Kendrick Green, right guard Dan Feeney, right tackle Richard Gouriage and tight end Jackson Hawes.
The Bills' starters on defense: edge rusher Landon Jackson, defensive tackle Deone Walker, defensive tackle T.J. Sanders, edge rusher A.J. Bills center Connor McGovern was not in uniform Sunday, a surprising development since he has not missed practice during training camp. Several injured players were also not dressed: running back Darrynton Evans (hamstring), cornerback Te’Cory Couch (hamstring), corner/safety Cam Lewis (calf), cornerback Maxwell Hairston (knee), center/guard Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (calf), kicker Tyler Bass (pelvis), receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle) and offensive tackle Tylan Grable (concussion). Defensive end Nelson Ceaser, who signed with the team Thursday, did not play.
