Man United head coach Ruben Amorim would have been happy with certain aspects of the performance against Arsenal but his team still ended up on the losing side.

A set-piece goal and a goalkeeping error condemned them to defeat on the opening day of the season.

However, while the Red Devils did test Gunners keeper David Raya, they really needed to create more chances than they ultimately did.

Goalkeeper and Defence

GK – Altay Bayindir – 4/10 – the Turkish international flapped at the corner and he didn’t show enough strength to outmuscle William Saliba before Riccardo Calafiori scored.

CB – Leny Yoro – 6/10 – the centre-half had a comfortable evening against Gabriel Martinelli, but he wasn’t particularly brave on the ball.

CB – Matthijs de Ligt – 6/10 – the Dutchman got outmuscled by Viktor Gyokeres on a couple of occasions but he didn’t have too much trouble handling the striker.

CB – Luke Shaw – 8/10 – when the defender is fit, he is able to lock up even the best attackers and he kept Bukayo Saka quiet all evening with the help of Dorgu.
