Newcastle United remain in transfer limo over star striker Alexander Isak.
Wayne Rooney has questioned whether Liverpool need Alexander Isak due to his recent behaviour at Newcastle United.
It is no secret that the Swede wants to leave St James’ Park this summer. As it stands, Liverpool are the only interested party and made an opening offer earlier this month.
Newcastle are in no mood to accept a lowball bid and a top-level replacement would also be required. With each passing day, that outcome appears more unlikely but, for now, Isak continues to train alone.
Wayne Rooney on Alexander Isak
Speaking on Match of the Day, former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney slammed Isak’s attitude. He suggested the way the striker has acted spells bad news for any possible move.
“The fact that he’s refusing to come in and train, it’s going to be very difficult for him to come back in,” Rooney said. “There’s a trust element there. He’s going about it the wrong way. Maybe he’s getting advised wrongly.
“But also for the team who’s trying to sign him, in this case it looks like Liverpool, you have to wonder if this is the sort of player you want, who’s going to desert his teammates and a huge football club. It’s a good opportunity but it has to be done in the right way.”
Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak chanting
Toon fans turned on Isak following the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend. On the chants directed at the 25-year-old, Eddie Howe said post-match: “Whatever happens, I think the supporters have acted really well today because they supported the team.
“Not everything has been plain sailing but they’ve always been with the team. And then if afterwards they want to say something, I think they’re very free to do that.”
Anthony Gordon on Alexander Isak saga
Speaking to TNT Sports, Gordon opened up about how the Isak saga has affected the camp. He said: "It has been difficult because we're such a tight-knit group. We've never really had any problems publicly and that being the first thing that has happened has tested us.
"But you see today, we still have that spirit and that togetherness. We work on it every day. That is never going to go regardless of individuals. We're a top group, our togetherness is top and it always will be.
"It can do (bring the group closer together) but we're still together anyway. Things like things can sort of us test you and make you better in the end - and I think that is going to be the case."
