Arsenal have been urged to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo by Micah Richards after what he saw from Mikel Arteta's side against Manchester United.
The Gunners secured a 1-0 victory over United at Old Trafford on Sunday, but it was far from plain sailing for the north London outfit. Arsenal struck early as Declan Rice's corner was flapped at by Altay Bayindir, with Riccardo Calafiori arriving at the back post to head home.
Arsenal then sat deep and allowed United to come onto them, with Ruben Amorim's side dominating proceedings from then. They struggled to break Arsenal down, with United having minimal clear-cut chances, with Amorim's side lacking a cutting edge in the final third.
Arsenal Urged to Sign Real Madrid Winger Rodrygo
Rodrygo in action for Real Madrid
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, former Manchester City defender has urged Arsenal to go and sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo after what he saw from the Gunners...
"I just look at that position on the left-hand side and think if they could sort that. When they was linked to Rodrygo, that could solve a lot of problems for them."
Rodrygo, described as 'world-class' by Luka Modric, is a naturally left-sided player, unlike Eberechi Eze, who they've been linked with a move for, and Noni Madueke, who was signed earlier in the summer transfer window. It certainly won't be an easy deal for the Gunners to get over the line, as Real Madrid will likely demand a hefty fee to bring him to the club.
Gabriel Martinelli started on the left-hand side of attack for Arsenal at Old Trafford, but the Brazilian international struggled to make a significant impact. It's been a busy summer transfer window for the north London club, but there's no doubt a new left winger could help take them to the next level.
The window closes in two weeks, and Arsenal will play twice before the market slams shut. Up next for the Gunners is a home game against newly promoted Leeds United, before they travel to Premier League champions Liverpool before the end of August. If Arteta and his recruitment team can bring in a player of Rodrygo's calibre for the left wing position, then they'll give themselves an excellent chance of competing for the title during the 2025/2026 season.
