Manchester United are “targeting a move” for Brentford captain Nathan Collins, according to the Daily Mail.
The 2024/25 season is one that Man United will hope to quickly forget, finishing with their lowest-ever league position in the Premier League era and missing out on qualifying for European football. Ruben Amorim has now, finally, had a pre-season and summer window to better shape his current squad.
To date, Man United have made three major signings, recruiting striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig to lead the line whilst adding Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to operate as number 10s in the Portuguese’s system, the pair having each produced stellar displays across the last campaign.
Though they will not pursue a move this summer, Man United’s interest in Brighton star Carlos Baleba suggests that the Red Devils are targeting further incomings before the transfer window closes on 1st September. Recent reports have indicated that the Old Trafford side have identified one particular centre-back as an ideal defensive signing.
Man United Keen On Collins
Nathan Collins
The Daily Mail have reported that Nathan Collins is a player that Man United want to sign. A Republic of Ireland international, Collins joined Brentford from Wolves in 2023, immediately becoming a key part of the Bees’ first-team under the management of Thomas Frank.
Last season, Collins played every single minute of the Premier League season as Brentford finished 10th. At just 24 years old, interest in the centre-back is “surging.” Though the Red Devils are keen on recruiting another defender, the Daily Mail have reported that the club must first sell a member of their squad before making any further signings.
Jadon Sancho is one of a number of Man United players who could leave the club this summer and these outgoings would be crucial if the Red Devils want to sign Collins. Brentford would be reluctant to sell, having managed the departures of many top players already, including the aforementioned Mbeumo. Man United would have to pay a sizable fee, but would be making a brilliant addition to their backline should they negotiate a deal.
