Anthony Elanga comments on Newcastle United away supporters after X-rated Alexander Isak chants

Anthony Elanga made his Newcastle United debut in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.

Anthony Elanga has hailed Newcastle United supporters as “amazing” after the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa.

The Swede made his competitive debut for Newcastle on Saturday in front of 3,000 travelling fans. Pandemonium almost erupted in the away end early on when Elanga was put clean through.

However, the 23-year-old was denied a dream start in Toon colours by Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot. A toothless attacking display followed as Newcastle struggled to break down a stubborn 10-man out.

Newcastle United fans turn on Alexander Isak

As the players applauded those who made the visit at the full-time whistle, Elanga’s compatriot, Alexander Isak, faced the wrath of the fans. Chants of “There’s only one greedy b******” echoed around Villa Park.

Isak stayed at home as his teammates fought hard in the Midlands and is now set to face a fine. Writing on social media, Elanga praised his new supporters while looking ahead to his St James’ Park bow next week.

“Wanted more today,” he wrote. “But the togetherness in this team will be key this season! The travelling fans were amazing, and I can’t wait to see this next Monday! HOWAY THE LADS.”

Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak chanting

On the chants directed at Isak, Eddie Howe said post-match: “Whatever happens, I think the supporters have acted really well today because they supported the team. “Not everything has been plain sailing but they’ve always been with the team. And then if afterwards they want to say something, I think they’re very free to do that.”

Speaking to TNT Sports, Gordon opened up about how the Isak saga has affected the camp. He said: "It has been difficult because we're such a tight-knit group. We've never really had any problems publicly and that being the first thing that has happened has tested us.

"But you see today, we still have that spirit and that togetherness. We work on it every day. That is never going to go regardless of individuals. We're a top group, our togetherness is top and it always will be."It can do (bring the group closer together) but we're still together anyway. Things like things can sort of us test you and make you better in the end - and I think that is going to be the case."
