Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United 'monitoring very talented' goalkeeper after Altay Bayindir howler

Man Utd could look to sign a new goalkeeper in the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have just two weeks left of the summer transfer window if they are to reinforce their first-team squad for the forthcoming season. Ruben Amorim's side started the new campaign with a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal, though there were plenty of positives to take from the manner of their performance.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both impressed with energetic and enterprising performances in the forward line but a howler from Altay Bayindir undermined the improved display. The Turkish goalkeeper was backed ahead of Andre Onana, who missed out from the matchday squad after his recent return from injury.

Bayindir was bullied at a first-half corner kick and flapped at the ball as Riccardo Calafiori turned the ball over the line from close range. It proved to be the decisive moment of the match and raised further questions about the lack of quality United have in that department.

Romano issues goalkeeper update

Manchester United contemplated a goalkeeper signing in the summer transfer window but prioritised attacking reinforcement to overhaul their forward line. They spent over £200 million on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko and also contemplated an ambitious move for Carlos Baleba ahead of signing a new shot-stopper.

A potential goalkeeper signing will surely be the hot topic before transfer deadline day and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the possible addition.

"On Manchester United and goalkeepers, the last bid made was for Emi Martinez in July, loan rejected by Aston Villa," Romano said in his latest YouTube video. "So since that moment, United have not presented any fresh proposal for Martinez. That situation has gone completely quiet.

"A goalkeeper they still and will still keep an eye on is Senne Lammens, the goalkeeper of Royal Antwerp. He is a very talented goalkeeper, Belgian, United have been monitoring him for a long time. This interest remains.

"I think if Manchester United decide between now and the end of the window to invest in a goalkeeper, Lammens is the goalkeeper they like. He could be a possibility. Donnarumma they are aware of the situation but Man City are in concrete talks to sign him. At the moment, for Manchester United this is the situation but still nothing imminent as of now with Onana accepting the decision of Ruben Amorim."
