Director hints at move for Manchester United player – Development can accelerate OT exit

Rasmus Højlund was initially reluctant to leave Manchester United, but apparently that’s no longer the case.

Four days ago, Gazzetta dello Sport reported AC Milan have held talks with the striker’s camp and his father informed them of the 22-year-old’s willingness to join them.

Højlund has lost prominence under Ruben Amorim, especially after Manchester United signed Benjamin Šeško earlier this month.

The Italian club can offer him an escape route and their sporting director, Igli Tare, has now confirmed his side’s interest in Højlund to Sport Mediaset.

On Sunday, Milan secured a 2-0 win over Bari in the Coppa Italia, and prior to kick-off, Sport Mediset had a chat with Tare.

They asked him about the Manchester United player, and he said: “Højlund is a good option for us. We’re evaluating him in the coming days, but the transfer market is unpredictable. We know we have to intervene in that position, and we also know they have to be players who can bring something extra to this group.”

The Rossoneri official also confirmed Juventus’ Dušan Vlahović is on their list.

Monday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport relays Tare’s comments and provides the latest on the Denmark international.

Amorim left the former Atalanta man out of his squad for the loss to Arsenal on Sunday. Gazzetta say this is good news for the Italian club as his Old Trafford exit ‘can be accelerated’ now.

The Dane’s omission yesterday is clear sign he has ‘little room to recover lost ground’. He could spend his time between the bench and the stands if he were to stay at Manchester United.

Højlund favours Milan as long as they make his stay permanent, either this summer or at the end of this season [if it’s a loan deal].

Manchester United are asking for a package of €45m between loan fee and buying option, while Milan don’t want to offer more than €34-35m. The gap needs to be closed for the clubs to find an agreement.
