Manchester United legend Paul Scholes found himself on the receiving end of some light-hearted family rivalry as he watched his former club’s Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday.

The highly anticipated clash at Old Trafford, the standout fixture of the opening weekend, gave United fans a first glimpse of their new-look squad following a summer of heavy investment. Among those tuning in from home was Scholes, but his enjoyment of the occasion was briefly interrupted by his daughter Alicia, who walked into the room wearing an Arsenal shirt.

The 24-year-old filmed the moment for social media, capturing her father’s unimpressed reaction. The former midfielder could be heard bluntly telling her to “take it off,” to which she cheekily responded with a defiant “No.”

Alicia is the second of Scholes’ three children with wife Claire Froggatt. She plays for London Pulse in the Netball Super League, represents England internationally, and has also built a profile as an influencer with more than 100,000 Instagram followers.

Her private life has recently drawn attention, too. In July, Love Island star Ayo Odukoya, 26, confirmed his relationship with Alicia following weeks of speculation. The pair have since shared glimpses of their romance on social media, cementing themselves as one of reality TV’s newest couples.

On the pitch, it was Alicia who enjoyed the bragging rights as Arsenal claimed a 1-0 victory thanks to Riccardo Calafiori’s 13th-minute header. While United produced an encouraging performance, with new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo impressing, Ruben Amorim’s men were unable to convert their chances.

Mikel Arteta was certainly impressed with the three points but revealed that his players were not happy with their performances. “22 years at Old Trafford without winning before I came. Now I go into the dressing room, we won and they’re not happy. It’s a good sign.”
