Aston Villa player close to accepting transfer offer – Approval awaited to secure exit

Leander Dendoncker is in his final year of contract at Aston Villa and has no future at Villa Park under Unai Emery.

On Sunday, La Nueva España reported Real Oviedo have initiated contact to sign him this summer. They also indicated Aston Villa could release him by terminating his contract.

Het Nieuwsblad also reports he has no future at Aston Villa, who are eager to get rid of his salary.

El Comercio backs up the La Liga newcomers’ proposal and provides more on the efforts put in to convince the player. They are focusing on the 30-year-old after missing out on Panathinaikos’ Nemanja Maksimović.

A few weeks ago, Real Oviedo manager Veljko Paunović approached the Aston Villa player with an offer and the financial terms that would be suitable for them to sign him.

The Belgium international was initially hesitant, but told his brother, who is said to be his agent, abut the conversation he had with Paunović. In recent days, he changed his stance, allowing the parties to make progress in negotiations.

According to El Comercio, the former Wolves man is close to accepting the Spanish club’s offer.

Monday’s edition of La Nueva España reports Real Oviedo are close to signing Dendoncker to improve their midfield. He can also operate as a centre-back. They add he’s ‘getting closer and closer to join them in the next few hours’.

The report states Real Oviedo will complete his signing as soon as he leaves Aston Villa. This indicates they are waiting for the Villans to terminate his contract so that the La Liga side can sign Dendoncker for free.
