Newcastle United were held to a goalless draw by Aston Villa in their Premier League opener on Saturday, despite being the more dominant side. The Magpies were without star striker Alexander Isak, whose future remains a hot topic at both St James' Park and Anfield.
Despite his absence, the Carabao Cup champions looked set to secure all three points when Villa's Ezri Konsa was sent off with 25 minutes left on the clock. However, they couldn't find a way past Villa's debutant goalkeeper Marco Bizot and will now look to secure their first win of the season next Monday in their first home game against Liverpool.
Express Sport brings you a round-up of all the latest transfer rumours coming out of St James' Park...
Wissa deal close
Newcastle are close to signing Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, according to the Daily Mail. The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to St James' Park throughout the summer, with the club seemingly unwilling to let Isak join Liverpool until they have secured a replacement.
After failing to secure deals for Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike, Newcastle have now set their sights on Wissa as their top priority, with Hope "convinced" a deal could be finalised this week.
Goncalo Ramos dismisses potential move to Magpies
Despite recent rumours linking him with a move to Newcastle, Goncalo Ramos has confirmed he will remain at Paris Saint-Germain this season.
The 24-year-old was the latest high-profile striker to be associated with a move to St James' Park over the weekend, with national press reports suggesting he had been offered to the Magpies.
However, the Portuguese international appears to have already dismissed these rumours - by informing reporters of his contentment at the Parc des Princes.
"I'm ready when the team needs me. When I receive the ball like that, I score," Ramos stated. "Yes, I confirm that I am staying [at PSG] this season."
