Arne Slot's Liverpool transformation is starting to resemble a revolution, but there remains a sense of continuity in the Anfield midfield.

The Reds have introduced a new full-back duo, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, moving away from the iconic partnership of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson - the latter still being a top-notch option for Slot.

Up front, £79m striker Hugo Ekitike has taken the reins. Florian Wirtz, the thrilling German international, has joined for a record-breaking fee of £116m from Bayer Leverkusen.

He brings a more traditional No. 10 style compared to last season's tireless, hard-running Dominik Szoboszlai, who started deeper in Friday's match against Bournemouth.

Despite these changes, Slot essentially has the same midfield options when piecing together his weekly line-up, reports the Liverpool Echo.

There are challenges to address on the training ground, with the Premier League champions appearing too vulnerable during transitions and turnovers.

The two goals conceded in the 4-2 victory over Bournemouth indicate that they've already let in as many counter-attack goals as they did throughout the entire previous season.

The return of the unflappable Ryan Gravenberch, known for his composure, balance and skill in tight spaces, will certainly be a boost following his suspension on Friday.

However, Slot's ability to address his team's vulnerability to counter-attacks - a problem evident in the Community Shield match against Crystal Palace - will play a significant role in determining their points tally by the September international break.

A major advantage for Liverpool's head coach and his team is that starting the season on the opening weekend gives them a 10-day gap before their next match against Newcastle United on 25 August.

Given the ongoing situation with Alexander Isak, this game promises to be particularly explosive, especially as it's Newcastle's first home match of the new season.

Liverpool's response to the physicality and intensity of Newcastle will greatly influence the outcome. Closing the gaps in midfield when not in possession is a priority before they face the charged atmosphere of St James' Park.

The time spent on the training pitch between these two matches could prove crucial in smoothing out any pre-season issues. This means additional training sessions and building fitness levels, alongside video analysis meetings ahead of the clash with Eddie Howe's side.

A peaceful week to focus on the finer points and particulars might be exactly what Slot requires to strengthen the vulnerable areas that have been exposed at times during this summer period.
