Gianluigi Donnarumma wants £400,000 a week to join Manchester City from PSG this summer.

Donnarumma was left out of PSG’s squad for the Uefa Super Cup final victory over Tottenham and their opening Ligue 1 fixture against Nantes over the past week.

Football Insider revealed on 12 August Man City were entering the race to sign Donnarumma after he’s also been linked with rivals Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola’s side are believed to be exploring a move for the 26-year-old as speculation continues around the future of Ederson, who is out of contract in June 2026 and has been linked with Galatasaray.

James Trafford started in goal for Man City in the victory over Wolves on Saturday (16 August) after rejoining the club for £27million from Burnley last month, with the deal potentially rising to £31million in add-ons.

Meanwhile, Donnarumma has spent the past four years with PSG after joining on a free transfer from AC Milan in 2021.

The Italy international, who is also out of contract in June 2026, kept 17 clean sheets in 47 appearances last season, helping Luis Enrique’s side claim the treble.

Donnarumma increasingly likely to join Man City

This article contains exclusive comment fromStefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Donnarumma’s potential arrival is understood to depend on the future of Ederson, who missed the season-opener against Wolves through illness.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “It’s looking possibly increasingly likely because Donnarumma is obviously definitely now leaving PSG, we know that.

“As we’ve talked about before, his wages mean that there are very limited opportunities outside of Saudi Arabia.

“Manchester United have said that they can’t get there, or they’re not interested or he’s not a priority or whatever framing they gave to it.

“I think the reality is that it’s a lot of money when maybe you’d still like to do one of the other deals.

“According to actually quite a few podcasts and people that know, they have said that he’s on €12million (£10.3million) net, so that’s the best part of £200,000 net a week, which obviously in the UK translates to about roughly £400,000 gross.

“He did want a pay increase at PSG. That’s not going to happen, so I think you are looking at whether a team can or is prepared to pay £400,000 a week.

“It’s just extraordinary money obviously.”
