Liverpool have had a busy transfer window so far this summer and there is the potential for more deals to be completed over the next two weeks. September 1 marks deadline day for the Reds, and there continues to be speculation about the players that could move to Anfield before the window slams shut.

Arne Slot has added eight new signings to the Liverpool squad that he guided to a Premier League title last term. Giovanni Leoni became the latest addition to the squad last week, arriving from Parma after a £26million deal was agreed with the Serie A outfit.

Even though Liverpool have made eight new signings so far this summer, there is the scope for more to come, particularly at centre-back, where Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.

The ECHO has reported that talks between Liverpool and Palace over a potential deal for Guehi remain ongoing.

The England international is out of contract at Selhurst Park at the end of the season, and could be on the move this summer if Palace look to receive a fee rather than let the defender leave as a free agent.

If Liverpool were to agree a deal to sign Guehi, then they would have the perfect welcome gift lined up.

The Reds would need to hand Guehi a squad number if he were to move to Anfield, and one perfect option may already be available to the defender.

Liverpool currently have the No.23 shirt available to new signings this summer.

The number has been vacant since Luis Diaz switched to No.7 in the summer of 2023, while it has also been worn by club legend Jamie Carragher (1996/2013) - not to mention Robbie Fowler (1993/1996) in the past.
