Brentford are demanding big bucks for Newcastle United target Yoane Wissa.
Brentford have reportedly upped their asking price for Yoane Wissa to £60million to deal a fresh transfer blow to Newcastle United.
And while he was always viewed as Callum Wilson’s replacement at St James’ Park, the setback has ramifications for Alexander Isak’s future. Toon chiefs have targeted a striker all summer, with deals falling through for Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike.
No progress has been made, with Will Osula the only natural striker available for selection. Isak continues to down tools after making his intention clear that he wants to join Liverpool.
Liverpool bid rejected
The Reds have already seen one offer worth £110million rejected but maintain an arm’s length interest. It is thought that Liverpool have waited for Newcastle to sign a replacement before making a second bid.
However, the Magpies have failed to land a breakthrough in the market. Benjamin Sesko’s arrival would have allowed Isak to leave but the former RB Leipzig man chose Manchester United.
Wissa, as mentioned, was seen as Wilson’s replacement, but he is still a striker and joining Newcastle would strengthen Liverpool’s position. There is now a danger of the deal falling through due to Brentford’s demands.
Brentford playing hardball
A bombshell talkSPORT report has claimed the Bees are now demanding around £60million for the 28-year-old. NewcastleWorld heard whispers over the weekend that the deal was not as advanced as initially hoped.
Brentford signed Bournemouth forward Dango Ouattara and many considered that the watershed moment in the Wissa saga. Unfortunately for the Magpies, he has been brought in to succeed Bryan Mbeumo.

I don't think Isak has done it the right way. Downing tools is certainly something that I am so against, it's unbelievable.
“But the fact of the matter is, you've got to look at managers and coaches, they don't want players in the dressing room that are going to cause unrest and are not happy, and want away.
"It's all very well saying, 'I'll just throw him in the reserves, do this, do that, do the next thing’. I've got a lot of sympathy for Keith Andrews, there's no doubt about that because if Brentford lose him (Wissa), and it looks like they are going to lose him...
"We saw at the weekend how short they are. They've already lost one of their best players, if not their best player (Mbeumo) to Manchester United. So I think it's going to be really tough times ahead for Keith Andrews and Brentford because I think they will lose him."
