Manchester United showed some moments of brilliance despite suffering defeat against Arsenal.
The 2025/26 Premier League campaign began with a frustrating 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Brilliant Old Trafford display
United fans generated a brilliant atmosphere at Old Trafford for the opening weekend, and it was helped by a wonderful flag display in the Stretford End.
Organised by the fan group ‘The Red Army’, supporters lifted dozens of flags and banners as the teams walked out of the tunnel.
It was followed by a passionate rendition of ‘Take Me Home, United Road’ – more of that at Old Trafford this season!

Man United controversially denied penalty
There was plenty of refereeing controversy in United’s opener, with Mark Clattenburg spotting a referee mistake for Arsenal’s opener. The former Premier League official believes the goal should not have stood.
In the second half, United were again on the end of a controversial decision when referee Simon Hooper denied Matheus Cunha a penalty following a strong challenge from William Saliba.
Clattenburg argued Cunha didn’t deserve a penalty, but the slow-motion replays of the incident indicate there was clear contact between the players.
Matheus Cunha’s incredible touch
Cunha was a standout performer against Arsenal, with United’s new No.10 providing a constant threat in the final third.
In the first half, Cunha carried the ball from his own half and carved a clear-cut opportunity after dribbling past Arsenal’s midfield and defence.
He also produced a moment of awe with his first touch from an Altay Bayindir pass. With one touch, Cunha knocked the ball around Ben White before driving possession into Arsenal’s back line.

Bryan Mbeumo’s overhead kick attempt
United sieged Arsenal’s goal for the majority of the match, and new signing Mbeumo came excruciatingly close to finding the back of the net on a few occasions.
In the first half, Mbeumo showcased his lightning-quick speed to carve open an opportunity, but his effort was tame.
After half-time, he came close with a headed effort which was well saved by David Raya.
Mbeumo also made an incredible overhead kick attempt from a Bruno Fernandes cross which bounced just behind him. His effort sailed just wide of the post, but it was an impressive show of agility.
Matheus Cunha’s Stretford End roar
It has not taken long for Cunha to win over the United fanbase, with the Brazilian already becoming a favourite among supporters.
