Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United transfer setback as agent confirms star rejected £20m exit

Man Utd hope to sell a key player before deadline day but there has been a setback in his proposed exit.

Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has turned down the opportunity to join Roma in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old has been frozen out at Old Trafford and has been informed he is free to join a new club before deadline day on Monday 1 September.

Serie A side Roma made an offer to sign the United forward in a deal worth £20 million, but it is understood Sancho turned down the offer to consider other proposals. It is a huge setback to United, who were happy to sanction his sale for that price in the final fortnight of the summer window.

It is claimed Sancho has also turned down the chance to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Besiktas as he currently has no desire to play in Turkey. The Turkish transfer window is open until Friday 12 September, and could be the only viable option available to him if he does not secure a move to a European club in the next two weeks.

Sancho rejects Roma transfer

Manchester United have placed a £20 million price tag on Jadon Sancho this summer, with both Roma and Besiktas happy to match it. However, both deals have been rejected by the forward, which leaves United with a dilemma in the final two weeks of the transfer window.

Taking to social media on Monday morning, Fabrizio Romano posted three separate updates on Sancho and confirmed the proposal to join Roma had been formally rejected. "Jadon Sancho, currently not accepting AS Roma proposal and not even in talks with Besiktas now," he posted on X. "No agreement between Sancho and Roma on personal terms, despite Man United ready to accept £20m bid. Besiktas deal in stand-by as Sancho won’t consider Turkey before September."

Romano then followed it up with a post that added: "More on Jadon Sancho. Besiktas called two weeks ago to ask for deal conditions… but since then, no fresh contacts took place. Besiktas remain willing to match Man United asking price but Sancho is not accepting a move to Turkey now. It can be an option only later on — with Turkish market closing on September 12."

He finally confirmed there was no chance of a move to Roma at this moment in time. Romano wrote: "Jadon Sancho’s agent also informed AS Roma of their decision not to accept the proposal. Sancho wants to consider other clubs’ proposals and AS Roma will now look at different options. Man Utd hope for similar proposals to follow, around £20m as they were ready to accept."
