Jadon Sancho 'rejects' Man Utd exit as Ruben Amorim misses out on £20m

Jadon Sancho's transfer to AS Roma has fallen through after the Manchester United winger rejected a move to the Serie A giants, according to reports. United were set to recoup £20million for the 25-year-old outcast, but he has frustrated Ruben Amorim by exploring alternative options.

Roma wanted to sign Sancho on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy, reportedly paying some of the fee upfront, which would have ended his ill-fated stint at Old Trafford. However, the Italians will now look elsewhere after failing to reach an agreement with United's problematic £73m flop.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sancho's agent has informed Roma of their decision to reject the proposal.

The England international wants to consider other clubs' proposals, and United hope that their £20m asking price will be met before the summer deadline.

The report adds that Besiktas have also been pushing to sign Sancho and held contact two weeks ago to discuss the conditions of a deal.

But it's claimed that Sancho is not yet ready to accept a move to Turkey, and would only view it as an option if he hasn't left United before the European deadline on September 1.

Turkish clubs can complete business until September 12, which may offer Besiktas boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some hope of a reunion.

United need to generate funds if they are to strengthen Ruben Amorim's squad further after splashing over £200m on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

While the Red Devils' performance in Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal was encouraging, it further emphasised their need for a new goalkeeper and midfielder.

Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia join Sancho as outcasts still training away from the squad after Marcus Rashford, the fifth member of the 'bomb squad', left for Barcelona.

Amorim also wants to cash in on Rasmus Hojlund after brutally excluding him from the United squad against Arsenal.

The 22-year-old striker also received zero minutes in the final pre-season match against Fiorentina, and just 18 against Everton before that.

United will hope they can raise extra cash through Garnacho, Antony and Hojlund, in particular. There is interest in all three.

But with Sancho out of contract next summer, there is a feeling, as painfully unambitious as it would be, that he is holding out for a free transfer, offering total control over his next club and a signing-on fee.
