Tottenham Hotspur are still optimistic about luring Eberechi Eze to Hotspur Way in the coming days despite the Crystal Palace star featuring in his current employers' clash with Chelsea on the opening matchday of the Premier League campaign, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed on the latest episode of our Market Madness podcast.
Spurs head coach Thomas Frank has not been afraid to splash the cash since the summer window opened for business, with Mohammed Kudus being the most expensive acquisition thanks to sealing a £55million switch from West Ham United, and they recovered from losing the Super Cup final by beating Burnley last weekend.
Heung-min Son headed through the exit door for more than £20million earlier this month, with the South Korea international embarking on a fresh challenge with Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles FC, and Tottenham are determined to secure additional creativity before September 1.
Spurs Remain Confident of Sealing Eze Move
Eberechi Eze in action for England
Tottenham have remained confident of sealing a deal for Eze as an agreement is nearly done in principle, according to GMS sources, despite him starting Crystal Palace's goalless draw with Chelsea and head coach Oliver Glasner insisting that he will be involved in the south Londoners' Conference League encounter with Fredrikstad on Thursday.
The attacking midfielder's £68million release clause has expired, meaning that the Eagles are in a strong negotiating position and under no pressure to sanction his departure, but Spurs have remained interested in reaching an agreement as they aim to strengthen their options at this stage of the window.
GMS sources have been informed that Eze has already agreed terms with Tottenham and, having won the FA Cup during a productive 2024/25 campaign, has made it clear to Crystal Palace that he wants to take advantage of the opportunity to complete a switch to north London.
Eberechi Eze's statistics for Crystal Palace this season
The England international has been described as a 'superstar' by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher and is eager to compete in the Champions League for the first time in his career as he aims to book a spot in the Three Lions' 2026 World Cup squad, leading to Spurs having additional optimism.
Crystal Palace have accepted Eze's wish to join Tottenham and are expected to sanction a sale, GMS sources have learned, resulting in it being expected that it is a matter of time before he will become the latest addition to the north Londoners' squad as the transfer deadline edges closer.
Levy Not Expected to Face Issues in Eze Talks
Eberechi Eze in action for Crystal Palace against Liverpool in the Community Shield
GMS sources have been told that there are not expected to be any issues between Tottenham chief negotiator Daniel Levy and Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish during further discussions over Eze, with the move only being held up while his current employers attempt to find a replacement.
The 27-year-old - who is on a contract worth £100,000-per-week in his current surroundings - could be a member of the Spurs squad before the end of the week if there is an incoming at Selhurst Park, meaning that Frank is close to making another addition to his side as they prepare to face Manchester City on Saturday.
Crystal Palace were unwilling to offload Eze for less than his release clause before it expired, GMS sources understand, but they have prepared for his move to Tottenham by making an approach to sign Leicester City's Bilal El Khannouss and pinpointing Christos Tzolis as another option.
GMS sources recently revealed that the former Queens Park Rangers talisman is open to joining Spurs and, despite him being involved on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, he is edging closer to moving across the capital as the transfer deadline edges closer.
