Tottenham up against Manchester United in the race for 24-year-old Irish star; Liverpool also…

Tottenham Hotspur face stiff competition from Liverpool and Manchester United for Nathan Collins

The defense was one of the areas of the team where Tottenham Hotspur brought in the most reinforcements in this 2025 summer transfer window. So far, Spurs have brought in three new centre-backs, i.e., Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic, and Kota Takai.

However, the North London side is seemingly still not done with strengthening this area of their team, and are still looking for further reinforcements at this late stage of the transfer market.

As per a report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are engaged in a transfer battle with other Premier League giants, Liverpool and Manchester United, to sign another centre-back, i.e., the Brentford captain Nathan Collins.

The Irish defender has been quite impressive with Brentford, but it seems like the Bees are now facing a challenge to keep him in their team. This seems to be the case even after Collins was given the captain’s armband following Christian Norgaard’s move to Arsenal.

Tottenham can reunite the defender with Thomas Frank

As far as the three contenders are concerned, Liverpool would be looking to add him after having been rather underwhelming in the defense during the preseason. Having already sold the likes of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Caoimhin Kelleher, money would not be a problem for them, as it is for Manchester United.

On the other hand, Tottenham would offer the 24-year-old the chance to reunite with Thomas Frank, who made the jump to the North London club this summer.

With his excellent positioning and ability to win ground duels, Collins would definitely be a good addition to any of these three sides. However, Spurs already have quite a good number of players for the centre-back positions, and the signing of another centre-back would not be the most urgent task for them.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both put in quite a good performance in the opening Premier League game against Burnley, while new signings like Danso, Vuskovic, and Takai are all available to play as centre-backs. Furthermore, Tottenham are also being linked with Piero Hincapie, and it remains to be seen how their backline would look by the time the transfer window closes.
