Manchester United urged to sell the players who are not in Ruben Amorim’s plans this summer
As Manchester United fans, it’s sad to think that the 2024/25 season was a nightmare for us. United finished 15th in the Premier League, the worst performance in the club’s history. The Europa League final loss against Tottenham Hotspur knocked us out of European competitions for the next season.
Ruben Amorim took over in mid-season, but things did not improve in the remaining half of the season. This summer, the club signed big players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Young Diego Leon also joined the team. Meanwhile, the signing of Benjamin Sesko gave us hope of a strong and clinical striker next season, as Rasmus Hojlund’s performance was disappointing to say the least last season.
Now all eyes are on the first match of the Premier League, where United will face Arsenal at home. This match is a big test for manager Amorim and will be a glimpse of what he is planning for this new season. The trio of Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko is definitely creating excitement among the fans, but the club will have to sell some players before the transfer window closes.
Harry Redknapp’s View on what Manchester United should target

Harry Redknapp urges Manchester United to sell underperforming players and back Ruben Amorim’s vision for a top-six finish
In that aspect, former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp recently gave his opinion on United’s current situation. He said that Amorim has a tough job ahead of him, but the new signings are a step in the right direction. Redknapp believes that the club need to win trophies or at least make it to the top six.
He stressed that Amorim will have to remove those players who spoil the team atmosphere. The attitude of some players is damaging to the club. Redknapp praised Amorim for the courage he showed in separating these players, but he said that only good players make a manager great.
“A successful season for Manchester United would be obviously a trophy of some sort but a top six finish would be a massive improvement. Ruben Amorim has got a hard job on his hands but they have brought some decent players in, I think that the recruitment looks like it’s okay and they’re not finished yet they’re gonna bring a few more in so it all depends who they bring in. Really the team needs rebuilding and he needs to get a few out.”
“He’s got a few there that he doesn’t fancy who are not probably good around the place attitude wise and you know you only need a few bad apples at your club and they can absolutely destroy your football club and it seems to me that he has got one or two there that he feels are bad apples and until he gets them out he’s always going to have a problem. He’s obviously pushed them to one side.”
“He’s not taking players on the trip that he didn’t feel were part of what he’s looking to do. It’s been bold and I like the manager. I think he comes over great, full of enthusiasm and he knows what he wants. But good players are the most important thing. To be a great manager, the most important ingredient is to have great players. Manchester United certainly didn’t have great players last year. They were a very, very poor group. Hopefully they are improving this year. I’d love to see them do better.”
Need for change: Why selling is necessary
We do agree with what he said, as the previous season was a lesson for United and the management. Now, the last days of the transfer window are near, and the club desperately need to sell players like Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony. These players do not fit into Amorim’s plans in any way. Sancho and Garnacho’s attitude has been questionable, while Antony’s performance has been disappointing to say the least, with no impact in the United jersey.
There have been attempts to sell Hojlund as well, but the right deal has not been found as of yet, as we keep negotiating with AC Milan. By selling these players, United can reduce their wage bill and raise funds for new players for the upcoming January transfer window.
There is no need for more signings in this window. Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko already form a strong attacking line, and Amorim should now focus on the current squad. Selling these unwanted players will still not be easy, as the club did not find buyers throughout the summer, but their departures are necessary. Players with a bad attitude can spoil the atmosphere in the dressing room. If United are to get back to the top, the club need to sell these players before this transfer window ends.
