Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has made it clear that the Magpies are not finished in the transfer market after adding Jacob Ramsey to his squad on Sunday.

The £43m deal has excited many Toon supporters with the left-sided player an option out wide and in a couple of midfield positions.

Ramsey could make his Premier League debut against Liverpool next Monday night after completing his move from Aston Villa over the weekend.

What happens now in the final few days of the transfer window will be interesting for Howe and his black and whites with Yoane Wissa still high on the wish-list plus another potential striker to come in. Alexander Isak's situation could also come to a head with Liverpool understood to be waiting on another official approach with the Swede refusing to play for Newcastle again.

But Howe gave a simple message when asked what type of signings fans could expect before the window shuts.

He told reporters: "We are still active in the window and we’d love to add one or two players but it really is quality over quantity.

"We don’t want to just add and I don’t think we need to do too much more. We are strong and in certain areas we’ve got good depth and will be able and resilient enough to get through a long, tough season."

Howe also spoke of the importance of a fully fit squad ahead of Champions League games and top-flight fixtures in this autumn.

He said: "You look at the fixtures we have beyond the first international break and it’s relentless.

"We are going to need everybody fit and available and to contribute. So it’s an important few weeks left in the window for us and we certainly need to do a little bit more."

Newcastle finished fifth last season and lifted the Carabao Cup with the opening round of Premier League fixtures already demonstrating how fierce this campaign could be.

With that in mind, when asked about what a good season looks like, Howe said: "Improvement and being more in control in our performances, more dominant displays and, of course, really simply wins.

"We need to win more football matches, score more goals, we want to attack and be the team we have always been.

"But it’s never a given you will deliver that. The league is so hard and the challenges are so big in front of us.

"All the teams have improved. I feel we will be stronger once we have our full complement of players available."
