Fourth, Monday Monday, bad day at the office and Brentford at the weekend

Damian 18 August 2025

What a weekend for football and it hasn't ended. The weekend has, but we still have Leeds and Everton tonight. And the atmosphere at Elland Road is always good. They'll be happy they're back and I'm quite looking forward to Monday night football again.

And it will be a good game. We saw what Sunderland did at the weekend and I fancy Leeds will be looking to replicate that. It will certainly be part of the message from the manager. And Everton are an unknown quantity. Moyes had the bounce when he went back, but will that continue this season.

I'm part of a small group probably that think Everton could be a surprise this season. I'm not thinking top four, a long way from it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were competing for European football by the end of the season.

And I'm not usually a Monday fan. I wish every day could be like Sunday. I like a Sunday. But today is Monday and well, it could be worse. It could be the middle of July and we don't have any football. Now proper football is back, it's nice. It gives us the rest of the week to discuss what is going to happen at the weekend.

And you knew this was coming.

Bad day at the office

---------------------

And on my very early way in to the office this morning I heard something on the radio, it might have been TalkSport or it could have been Sky Sports News when I got into the office (I've now got a TV in the office and I've got it playing all day in the background), but someone said something about a bad day at the office for their side.

And I thought about that for a moment and it got me thinking. We had a bad day at the office on Saturday, that's all. We are all allowed a bad day at the office sometimes and Saturday was ours. It will get better.

And I suspect it will get better at the weekend against Brentford. But the difference has to be that we don't adapt for Brentford or whatever side we are playing, we have to play or figure out what the Unai Emery or Aston Villa way is, so opposition teams adapt to us.

I watched United and Arsenal yesterday and United looked a lot better than they have in a while and if they continue like they did yesterday, it's going to be a good season for them. We need to act a little like that and Brentford at the weekend is a good opportunity for us to bring our game to them. United lost, but a lot of teams will lose to Arsenal this season.

Anyway, four days in a row. Honestly, how many of you thought it would get this far?
