Former Lions quarterback moves on to surprising new career

Jake Fromm, a former quarterback with the Detroit Lions during the 2025 season, has retired from the NFL and has opted to begin working as a client advisor for an Atlanta insurance brokerage firm.

It was announced a few weeks ago that Fromm would also be joining Atlanta News First network as their sports director, adding a more understandable job to his resume that now reads "retired NFL quarterback" instead of active.

Fromm is a Georgia native, having suited up for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2017 to 2019. He was released from the Lions this year, a day before the NFL draft kicked off. It was one of the more insignificant roster moves Detroit made before beginning the new football year.

Fromm officially moves on from NFL

While Fromm didn't match the success he had at the University of Georgia, the former Lions quarterback does have the unique privilege of not only earning an NFL paycheck but also appearing in an NFL game. However, following his release in April and limited to no interest from any NFL teams Fromm has opted to retire.

Fromm put together a 35-7 record as a starter at UGA putting together a career where he threw for almost 8,000 yards and a TD:INT ratio of 78:18, along with a National Championship appearance all of which would earn him a 5th round selection by the Buffalo Bills in 2020.

Fromm bounced around the NFL from 2020 to 2024, with the Bills, Giants, Commanders, and Lions, with his only significant playing time coming in 2021 with the Giants appearing in 3 games. He threw for for 210 passing yards 1 TD and 3 INTs in those appearances.

Fromm's career is nothing short of successful in the grand scheme of athletes reaching the highest level of their profession. A career that lasted five seasons has earned him over $2.5 million dollars, and now Fromm embarks on a new career path at the age of 27. Fromm becomes the 5th quarterback to retire this NFL season.

He joins David Carr ($195,666,395 career earnings), Trace McSorley ($2,892,735 career earnings), Jordan Travis ($724,276 career earnings), and Holton Ahlers ($25,000 career earnings) of signal callers who have created a slight ripple effect in the 2025 quarterback landscape as it pertains to signal callers who simply don't pan out beyond getting added to some rosters.
