Liverpool star set to complete transfer move as buy back clause revealed

The busy summer for Liverpool transfers is not slowing down. The latest exit is set to be young winger Ben Doak, who is close to joining Bournemouth in a deal worth around £25 million.

The 19-year-old completed his medical on Sunday, and the move is expected to be confirmed today (via The Athletic).

This transfer continues a trend at Anfield, with Arne Slot showing there is no room for hesitation in his squad rebuild.

Liverpool have already sold Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Jarell Quansah, while Caoimhín Kelleher and Tyler Morton have also left. The club has reportedly recouped more than £180 million in sales, and Doak’s move will add to that tally.

Doak joined Liverpool from Celtic in 2022 for just £600,000. He showed flashes of promise but found his path blocked by Mohamed Salah on the right wing.

A loan spell at Middlesbrough last season gave him valuable experience, as he produced three goals and seven assists in 24 Championship games.

When can Ben Doak play as a Bournemouth player

Bournemouth fans won’t have to wait long. The Cherries face Wolves on August 23, and Doak is reportedly in line to make the bench for that game. The deal also includes a buy-back clause, meaning Liverpool can bring him back in the future if they wish.

The Scotland international already has senior caps for his country and was close to playing at Euro 2024 before an untimely injury.

For Bournemouth, he adds pace and creativity, while for Liverpool, the sale represents smart business. Turning a £600,000 signing into a £25 million transfer is the kind of profit that would make even accountants cheer louder than the Kop.

This deal also helps Bournemouth replace Dango Ouattara, who joined Brentford in a record transfer last week.

For Doak, it’s a chance to start fresh in the Premier League with more minutes and less pressure.
