With two weeks to go until the transfer deadline, Alexander Isak’s future continues to be the topic of discussion.
Over a fortnight has passed since Liverpool first made clear to Newcastle they were prepared to make a British transfer record deal to sign Isak, and the only bid to date, a £110million offer, was launched and swiftly rejected by the Magpies.
The two clubs have remained in a stalemate since, with Liverpool unwilling to match the £150m valuation, while Newcastle are reluctant to see their star striker leave, or at least budge on their asking price.
Despite the Reds splashing £321m so far this summer, including £79million on striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, Arne Slot still wants to add more firepower to the team after Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez both left Anfield this summer.
The feeling is in Anfield that Newcastle could be willing to compromise on a deal as the deadline draws closer and Isak has made abundantly clear his desire to leave the club. The 25-year-old views his Newcastle career as over and has effectively been on strike for the entire summer.

Amid the outgoing noise surrounding Isak, Newcastle are working towards an agreement with Brentford to sign striker Yoane Wissa, who like Isak, has thrown his toys out of the pram and has demanded a transfer away.
Brentford value Wissa at upwards of £50m, and closed the signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth for £42m over the weekend.
But it’s unclear whether Ouattara’s arrival means the Bees will loosen their stance on the 28-year-old, who turns 29 days after the transfer deadline.

Alongside Wissa, Newcastle have also been linked with a move for PSG forward Goncalo Ramos.
While it’s been speculated that the DR Congo international’s arrival might not be enough to allow Isak to leave, with Callum Wilson’s void also needing to be replaced, signing two strikers in the remaining days of the window could see Newcastle lower their £150million valuation.
This could in turn pave the way for the Reds to finally reach an agreement at a compromised price, with Liverpool seemingly unwilling to match the Magpies’ current price tag.

However, Newcastle have struggled to land one striker this summer, let alone two forwards in two weeks.
Attempts to sign Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko ended in spectacular embarrassment as Liverpool and Manchester United, respectively, swooped to sign the two strikers from right under the Magpies’ nose.
But if Newcastle can save their window, and possibly season, by bringing in Wissa alongside another marquee striker signing, then Isak could finally get his wish.
