Report: The Washington Commanders are trying to trade Brian Robinson Jr

There was speculation and rumors about Brian Robinson Jr’s future with the Washington Commanders heading into their second preseason game, but now there are reports that the team is actively shopping him around, and looking to move on from their lead back for the last three seasons. Washington drafted Jacory “Bill” Croskey-Merritt in the 7th round, and he has been impressing coaches, fans, and analysts. He joined Austin Ekeler, Jeremy McNichols, and Chris Rodriguez Jr in Washington’s backfield hoping to get some playing time during his rookie season, but he could be getting a lot more if Robinson gets moved, or released.

Robinson was a 3rd-round pick by former HC/GM Ron Rivera, and he’s one of the last of the previous regime’s picks still on the roster. He had a scary start to his time in Washington, getting shot during an attempted carjacking that put him on injured reserve to start his rookie year. He returned in Week 5 to a lot of fanfare, and has been Washington’s #1 RB when he’s healthy. Robinson has missed 10 games during his first three seasons, and hasn’t been a dynamic player in the backfield.

Bill is a rookie who had limited playing time in college due to transfers and eligibility issues. The Commanders coaching staff is high on him, and will get to see more of him on Monday Night Football when Washington hosts the Cincinnati Bengals. Robinson will also be playing, unless a move is made before then, and could be putting some tape on for his next team, if the Commanders can find a trade partner. The compensation isn’t expected to be more than a late round pick, or pick swap, but would clear $3.4 million of cap space. Would Washington release Brian Robinson Jr. if no trade materializes?
