Maximilian Wöber left Leeds United on loan to Germany again this summer, in what was originally planned to be a permanent transfer.
Werder Bremen, though, weren’t happy with the terms of the deal and instead signed the 27-year-old on loan with an option to buy. At the time of the transfer it was explained the Bundesliga side had concerns over Wöber’s injury record and wanted to have him on loan for a season first.
The defender had knee surgery last season and has struggled with various injuries in recent years, hence Werder being hesitant to agree a permanent deal with Leeds United.
After 79 minutes of action, their concerns have become true. Werder Bremen have [released a statement](https://www.werder.de/aktuell/news/profis/2025/2026/update-woeber-17082025/) which explains Wöber has suffered a muscle injury in his thigh, likely a hamstring issue, and will not be available _‘for the coming weeks’._

Their information explains there’s been a positive update on getting Isaac Schmidt from Leeds United.
That is a transfer they’ve been working on for a while, with Daniel Farke wanting a replacement in. Schmidt is a right-back, but can also play on the left if needed.
In addition, they could also sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Elias Baum, another right-back who can play on the left.
